Degussa Methacrylates is a worldwide supplier of PMMA Molding Compounds and Semifinished Products under the PLEXIGLAS® trademark.
In December 2005, it opened its first plant in Asia, Degussa Forhouse Optical Polymers Corporation, in Taiwan. The new facility has an annual production capacity of 40,000 metric tons of PMMA molding compounds for LCD displays .In addition, a facility of methacrylate and its derivatives is to be built in mainland China.
PLEXIGLAS® acrylic glass, the world's leading manufacturers of acrylic, is manufactured and marketed by the Methacrylates Business Unit since 2006. PLEXIGLAS®, the trademark for the world's first acrylic, was invented by Degussa and manufactured for the first time in 1933.
Today, its extremely high weather resistance, great robustness, high transparency, outstanding brilliance and colorfulness, simple moldability and low weight – advantages that other plastic or mineral glass cannot offer in this combination- make it a NO.1 product for many applications.
